history
Sandrilene fa Toren is the daughter of Count Mattin fer Toren and his countess, Amiliane fa Landreg, great-grandniece of Duke Vedris VI of Emelan, and cousin of Empress Berenene of the Namorn Empire. Sandrilene is born of old money and even older blood, but she prefers to just be Sandry. Though her parents both had land holdings, they preferred to travel rather than directly oversee their lands or attend court. Sandy was close to her parents and certainly enjoyed travelling and seeing the world, but making friends was difficult. The nobles they visited worried their children would get funny ideas from Sandry and kept them away whenever she visited. So she was forced to make friends with commoners and Traders, which was difficult to say the least. But Sandry is a patient person, though some would call her stubborn.

From a very young age, Sandry has had an interest in spinning and weaving. But these were not appropriate for a noble girl and she was never allowed to learn about them. Instead Sandry was taught embroidery, which she took to with relish, to the point of occasionally damaging her hands. Yes, embroidery was fitting for noble girls, but her mother and Pirisi, Sandry's maid, felt she spent more time at it than was healthy. But though Sandry begged to learn about sewing and weaving, she was continually denied.

Sandry's happy childhood abruptly came to and end while her family was visiting Zakdin, the capital of Hatar. An epidemic swept through, killing Sandry's parents and inciting riots in the streets. Fearing for Sandry's life, Pirisi locked the girl in a storage room and hid it with magic, intending to draw the mob away and come back for her mistress after the epidemic had run its course. Unfortunately, she was killed just outside the storage room, taking the girl's location to her grave. As the mobs continued to surge in the streets, Sandry tried to keep from going mad. Though she had more than adequate food and water, she didn't have oil to keep her lamp burning. As her light slowly dwindled, Sandry desperately attempted to magic light into her embroidery threads, terrified of being alone in the dark. To her amazement it worked, and she passed the next several days braiding threads for her light.

Finally she was rescued by Niklaren Goldeye, a mage who had been searching for her. Sandry's time in the storage room and the deaths of her parents and maid took their toll on her though. Though her eyes soon healed from being in the dark for so long, Sandry sunk into a deep depression, refusing to take an interest in anything. It was the looms of the royal weavers that eventually snapped her back. Her bedchamber as she recovered was located above them in the castle, and their constant beating slowly wove into her to the point she became agitated when they stopped. Gradually, Sandry healed until she was able to travel north to Emelan. While there, Master Niko suggested to her uncle that Sandry go to school and that the company of children her own age would be beneficial as her uncle's wife was deceased and his children grown.

The first school Sandry attended proved to be something of a disaster. Though she tried to get along with the other girls her views tended to clash too much with theirs. The headmistress eventually decided Sandry was unsettling the other girls too much and asked her uncle to send her elsewhere. Master Niko suggested Meillure Academy, a school that was considerably liberal when it came to social classes but would still provide the proper protection necessary for someone of Sandry's status. What he didn't mention was Meillure was also a leading school for gifted children.

Though Sandry has mostly recovered from her ordeal in the storage room, she was also left with an almost paralyzing fear of the dark, to the point she sleeps with a small lamp next to her bed. She is also slightly claustrophobic, though her fear of the dark overrides it and is by far the more impairing.
